Think I'm going to restore something gold next year so I plan on getting the correct code of Gold for this era this fall so I can be ready in the spring.

Anyone know what the part number was for the paint? I'm trying to determine if it was all the same from the Ride-a-matic and tubeframe transition.

Chevrolet gold samples:   http://paintref.com/...Chevrolet.shtml

You can search the Ditzler data base here by year, make, & color:      http://paintref.com/...ler=21526,23264

I believe Bolens probably used an automotive color, rather than their own mixture.

Some others you can research:  1962 Chev Anniversary Gold, 1962 Rambler Corsican Gold, 1957 Chrysler Champagne Gold, 1961 Ford Honey Bronze, 1961 Ford Spanish Gold.

To the best of my knowledge 1961-1963 all used the same gold paint. The only paint code that consistently comes up is Ditzler/PPG 22390 which is listed as FMC Husky Tractor Gold. This is the same paint number that was recently brought up by one of our UK members in another thread. This appears to be a good paint code. The body shop I've worked for has its own mix station. Perhaps I can mix a small sample batch soon and check it out against some NOS parts.

Ditzler code 22390

Hopefully the color shows up well from this NOS part that I'll use for reference.

Went to mix some samples of gold today and tried to get a mix for the PPG ditzler code above but the guys couldn't convert this paint into the martin senior automotive brand.

Got some samples of other colors I tried and will post them when they dry, would be nice to get my hands on the actual "FMC" labled paint though to compare it.

Its probably the "Aztec" gold which was used on the 70's equipment, and was a different shade.

Should say it on the can

Hopefully we can find a proper conversion. I plan to have a ton of Bolens paint code info posted up tomorrow. Been digging pretty deep into this stuff. In the meanwhile, this is part of what I've been able to find:

I contacted the UK division of PPG via email, giving them the 22390 code and telling them that it was for a US built tractor. They were very responsive and we swapped a few emails which unfortunately ending with them stating the obvious, which was that it was an US colour and they were unable to help.

I then contacted PPG in the US a couple of times but they have not responded. You would have thought that an exact match can be found with the code and that PPG should be able to help. The challange is getting through to the right person. Whilst typing this a thought has dropped into my head. I will contact PPG in the UK again and ask for contact information for the US office.

I'm guessing your dealing with Napa for Martin senour have you gone through all of there color chip decks? I'm the paint guy at our Napa an so far I've been lucky with being able to match up so strange colors for people. Can you convert the log ditzler code into their global line?

Yes, they even made a phone call and could not cross it

I have a couple test samples from the old chip book but would really like to see what this paint looks like , not often we get a paint code actually labeled for Bolens
