Received a free John Deere Hydrostat 165 tractor.

Just a few problems right off the bat,  since I have had the tractor I have not been able to get it to turn over or anything.

Looking for help!

Checked the battery by purchasing a new battery.

Still nothing

Reading the battery voltage on a meter is the CHEAPEST way to see if a battery is working, then load testing it will verify holding a charge

My goodness, if mechanics worked that way, they'd ALL be broke!

Check you're cable connetions, and clean as needed!;)

Then, with the PTO OFF, parking brake set jump the battery side of the solenoid to the little wire connection (Start wire) and see if it cranks then.  If so, you have a keyswitch or Safety interlock issue

Are you aware of pushing the pedal to start? The clutch/brake or whatever it may be called on yours.  The pto switch off?  Seat switch still funcional, YOU have to be in Seat to make it be on, can't start standing beside tractor. There is maybe a back-up button to press when backing up with mower on?  Is that stuck? Lots of things on the new GT's to look at.

Does it click at all when you turn the key? Lights on at the dashboard?

The relay is for a starter improvement kit. Those models had a problem with getting full voltage to the starter. If you have no lights or power anywhere when you turn the key, you have other issues.

This is the improvement for the starter:

Yeah I think tomorrow I am going to spend the day tearing the tractor apart

And kinda start over at the beginning of the wiring to see if I can get anywhere with it......
