The ideal cutting length question...

I cut at about 3" and still need to mow weekly until it gets hot out.

I think that cutting more than 1/3 of the length of the grass is hard on the plant. If the grass is 4 inches, you can not take more than 1.2 inches off the top. If it is 3 inches you can cut to 2 inches tall. Well that does not make much sense unless you are cutting grass that has not been cared fro. If you get tall TALL grass you should not just lop it all off at one time. It should be done at 1/3 rule week by week. TIMO anyway and what I have been told!!

I cut mine through the summer at about 3". In the spring and fall at about 2 1/2". I'd like to go longer than 3" in the summer, but the sprinkler heads wouldn't be able to get up over it if I didn't.

I have mostly tall fescue.
