At least it may be just a broken ring... better than hearing that awful sound like a rod breaking.

Not that you wanted to do it... but now you have an excuse to do an overhaul... right? :smilewink:

I think I may just be able to replace the rings and be good to go. She runs and sounds great, but smokes like a train LOL
It still sounds like it has alot of power even though it smokes

Is the breather connected to the carb? ........Any chance it is sucking oil out of the breather and into the intake?

My step-dad had an EK, and I got to mow with it a few times. It felt a bit odd at first, but once I got used to it, I've NEVER run a mower that handled and CUT as well as that EK. Having that mower out front really does make a difference.

The only other lawn mower of any sort that ever impressed me as much were the old Jacobsen's with the disk with 4 mini blades on it instead of a conventional mower blade.

I was lucky enough to stumble onto one of those old Jakes last summer. All it took to get that Jake running and mowing was a new plug, and a bit of cleaning on the carb. Finding one of those EKs in similar condition would be just awesome.

Got the wisconsin back out of the EK and found the scraper ring was frozen to the piston and the rings had a gap about the size of the grand canyon LOL.

Everything else looked good.
Guess I'll get some rings and see what happens.

Quick update:
Managed to find some rings at a decent price today and got them on order.
The last rim is in the electrolysis tank and will be painted probably tomorrow. Some of the rims were rusted through in some places so I welded them up.

Here you can see the gap in the rings
This engine was alot cleaner inside than the one that had water in it LOL

The rims turned out really nice. Just gotta ask how come you didn't bend the one dent out on that one rim I see in the pic? I'm just giving ya a hard time :D
