Hey guys, now I have been a Ford guy for as long as I can remember, but I don't know the answer to this question.

As some of you may remember, I have a 1993 F-250 (3/4 ton) 4x4.It has the Dana 50 twin traction beam front end under it,and I want to swap in a Dana 60 solid axle.I have found one finally, but it is out of a dual wheeled F-350 (1- ton) 4x4 .

I tried to find one out of a single wheeled 1-ton but have had no luck.

What I want to know is will the front brakes and spindles off of my Dana 50 fit on the Dana 60 ?

I should know this but I don't.

Any help here will be greatly appreciated .

Maynard, If you don't find it by tomorow, maybe I can find the info in alldata. Copy and paaste this phrase in the google search and a bunch of matches come up. <ford "dana 50" "dana 60" swap>
May be some good info there.

Wow Maynard! You don't ask a lot of questions, but when you do they are some doosies! I guess the ford garage parts counter and some exploded views with part numbers might be a good place to start? Best of luck and sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

There is lots of great info there, but everyone says something different.eg:
One guy says the spindles will interchange, another says they won't.
Some say the rotors are the same, and some say they're not.
Calipers are the same to some, and not to others.
Another guy says the Dana 50 stub axle is not the same as the Dana 60,then someone else comes on and says they are.
And it goes on like that.

I mean who do you believe ? Each one claims they have done this swap, and yet they all tell you something different.
I don't want be buy this Dana 60 ,if I can't make it work.On the other hand,if I take too much time in deciding,it's going to be gone. And they are very hard to come by up here.

Wonder if maybe there are differences in the years? Do you know what year the 60 is out of? I'll try to look and see if I can figure anything out. Doesn't the 60 also take leaf springs instead of the coils like the twin beam?

I believe this Dana 60 is a 1986,or at least it's in a 1986.Yes the 60 does have leaf springs, but so does the my F250,so that shouldn't be a problem.
1986-1991 60 were kingpin style, and later ones were balljoint style.

Alldata may be more like no data this time! Doesn't specify between 50 and 60 but going back and forth between 3/4 and 1 ton shows the wheel bearings, rotors, calipers, and spindles to be different. Even for the 1 ton w/ single rear wheel. I can't find a listing for the stub that sticks in the spindle. Sometimes an interchange manual at the boneyard will show what is necessary to perform a swap. The only other thing would be someone in the dealership that would take the time and look or the the school of hard knocks. Can you see the diameter of the stub from the backside where the axle U joint is? If its an easy axle to get rid of and its cheap, might be worth taking it home and comparing. Maybe check the price of the stub and rotor for a single rear wheel 60 and factor that in??

I'll have to do some more research on this.
