:welcome: to GTTalk
I believe you meant 25 hp?

Anyways, many of Sears models have a couple engine variants. Usually a Kohler and a Briggs.
It's possible that the original engine went in warranty and this one was the offered replacement?
Might see if you can get any history from your friend.

Yes 25 hp originally, 27 now. The neighbors bought it used? It has a three bin bagger on the back. Serial # 080700A004099 so guessing it is a 2000 model year.

I would say the original owner had an engine go in warranty and that's what they put in.

Thanks, yes it runs, put a new battery, drained old gas, and put new B$S filter with non ethenol gas in it. fired right up. Oil in the engine was honey colored, looks never used?

I wouldn't question it.
If it runs nice, I wouldn't care if the engine tag said Flux Capacitor by Brown Enterprises.

Heres the issue, The tractor keeps poping the drive belt off the transaxle. If you engage the drive to fast. You have to be overly easy taking off or the belt comes off every time.

It sounds to me as if one or more of the belt guides are missing or installed incorrectly

Click on this link and look at the exploded view. See if anything there is missingfrom your tractor.

I guess I don't understand that last statement.
I think if you better define "it", we will be on the same page.
