I had a buddy drop off a Stihl BT121 post hole digger for me to work on, problems being loss of power. Says it has 100 psi compression cold and by the time he gets 1 hole dug and it warms up it loses power and compression is then 20. I have not been able to get the time to verify this yet, but I am thinking it would be a cylinder problem--rings, scored maybe
I see on feebay where I can get an aftermarket cylinder jug piston and rings all for about $35. Seems too cheap to be any good at least for very long. I didn't see any OEM ones listed.... available?

Ha, should have been to Portland!  One hole tent full of just Stihl saws and parts and another one half full of old saws and parts and torn down ones. Huge selection of New and Old items.  They had several crankcases and they are Plastic!!  Had bearings in them and such, but plastic, odd to me.

Thanks for that link Chris, I'm still trying to limp along a pretty old Stihl 020 chainsaw. May need these folks!

doesnt look "that" vintage, especially being as how I downloaded a manual elsewhere online for it and it mentions "emissions" warranty" and among things covered it showed "catalytic converter if applicable"    I have yet to see a small engine with one, but it has only been very recent that I have seen manuals that even mention them.

but I am wondering about the dependability of aftermarket stuff like pistons and cylinder jugs for Stihl in general.
