Trying to find the correct manual for a White 1665.  Understand it is the same as the MTD 995.  The one I am getting has 3 or 4 indicator lights vertical on the dash just to the right of the steering wheel.  Has the Briggs, hydro and 3 point.  I have the 140-995 and 142-995 but don't think they are the correct ones.  My first MTD/White GT so have some learning ahead of me.

Think I'll move this to the MTD forum. Those folks will figure this out.

Thought those later units had V-twin vanguards ?  More modern dashs with drive levers on opposited sides as older ones. White I had was quite a bit diff than the MTD versions I was seeing.

998s have the V-Twin vanguard if I remember correctly.

1 More manual to look through This one has an Opposed Twin Briggs in it much like the 140-995 and 142-995.

144-995

You will need a manual for a White 1655, they're on ebay a couple a places. The White has different options than its' MTD counter part

The indicators your talking about are in a dash module, I haven't seen any work yet. I have a 1655 and the gear drive version, a 1622

A White 1655 would be a 994 in MTD terms. The manual is free on the MTD site:
http://manuals.mtdpr...me=770-3581.pdf

Just click accept.

They show a manual for the 994 existing from '82-'84 but only available online for '84.

Also...
MTD shows another 16HP 1655 (MTD 996) in '92 and '93.
The '93 manual is at:
http://manuals.mtdpr...e=770-7873h.pdf

If he has a White Gt1655, it is a 79, they were only built that year .
The MTD's didn't have all the bells and whistles the Whites do.

I don't know what to tell you, the first manual I linked to says White GT1655 right on the front cover and it's got a 4 in the year digit making it an '84.

Make sure it doesn't say LGT 1655, that chassis was made up to the late 80's in a wide variety of horse powers and trans configurations. Like my LGT 1455 and LGT 1600,  But the 16hp horizontal in White was 79, the 18hp was the other offering , the 20hp was never offered by White , by then it was a plain MTD with a name plate

I see what your talking about Jim, but a White GT1655 is model number 990-189, with a L head briggs

the MTD your talking about is a 995-190 , the manual uses some of the same break downs , but there is a difference, the later tractors didn't use the dash module and I think used a Vanguard engine
