XL's muffler will be between the motor and the dash, QT's will be between the motor and the grille.

Why two threads on the same pic?

I sent the link to another member and he posted it but only a small part came up.  I was fiddling around with scrn prnt and paint and some how it worked.  Sorry.

Either a QT/QS 16 or early XL. Muffler goes between engine and grill on both-- at least all mine have.

Both of my Med. frames has the muffler going out the front. H16XL and G16XT

Just noticed, the other tractor, on the trailer next to it, is an MTD 995.
With the three point hitch. That's the tractor to get!

Joe

I seen that also.  Probably go for both if it's doable.  Would even consider the trailer.

May have changed decals some place, or mine has a different hood?   XL Left.JPG   Guess I will find out --maybe.  Made a couple phone calls to a guy I know where the tractors are at...  Seems the owner has moved to S.D. some time back.  He shows up a couple times a year to mow along the street a little and that it.  Has never made any improvement on the property.  Waiting for a call back from a guy that supposedly has been trying to buy the property.  Guess the building is full of junk just like the outside is.  Time to call American Pickers ? ? ?

Done some research on the MTD.  Seems that parts are real hard to come by for the tractor.  Would have to get it for less than scrap price if it can't be fixed up.  The 3 point would be nice to have.  Would rather have a 3 point for my Cub 1512.

PS:  Don't mind the yellow wheels.  Back tires were shot and had to put something on to unload it.  These happened to be handy.

Stopped the other day and looked at the tractors.  Bolens is an H14XL and the one on the trailer is a White 1665.  Talked to the owner, has the other back wheel.  Bought both tractors.  Think the engine is stuck on both of them.  I have an HH160 that needs a stator so maybe - - - - - .  Think the White has a Briggs in it.  Had a wasp nest under the hood so didn't stick around long to look it over good.  When ever the owner can break away going to go pick them up.

The white should have a Briggs horizontal twin in it.
Should be a 16 hp.
I bet if you put a little work into it, it'll be a fine tractor!

Got both tractor home yesterday, a Bolens H14XL and a White 1655.  Believe the White is pre MTD as the one tag in front of the seat reads 'White Outdoor Power Products,  ? ?,  Il'.    Did not get the wheel yet as he forgot the key to the building and he lives about 45 min away.  Drove through a shower on the away home.  Was moving in from the West as I pulled in the drive.  Pulled the plug on the Tec, put a little Marvel oil in the hole.  With a big screwdriver I though I would see if the flywheel would move - it did so the engine is free.  Put the plug back in, covered the hole where the carb goes and moved on.  Same thing on the Briggs.  Stuck the screwdriver in the drive shaft joint and it turned right away.  Another free engine.  Pulled the trailer down by the machine shed, unhooked and took a couple quick photos.  Got back up to the house just as it started to sprinkle.  Ended up with about .75" last evening and night.  Tractor will have to wait a couple days now till it dries up enough to get one in the shop, probably the H14.

Great score!
I don't believe White ever made their own garden tractors.
Jacobsen made some for them.
Then, they switched to MTD.
MTD bought the name when they went belly up.
The White machines had a few more features than the other MTD made 995's.
But, they were the same machine.
I think MTD didn't add their name to the hood until some time after aquiring the brand name.

The Bolens is in the shop.  Swapped the RF for a good one, aired up the rears and rolled it in.  Valves look good and top end is well lubed.  Carb is on and cables hooked up.  Next is the fuel tank clean up and new lines.  Just might try firing it up tomorrow if I have spark.
