2 steps forward.....and .......Ahhh the joy of redoing old stuff ! I moved the project into the sorta AC`ed garage to assemble the freshly painted drive train onto the frame.  Got everything setup thru the Tranny and was going to move it back to the Carport to install the engine and the rest of it. Thought I would roll it down the incline in the driveway to get the oil moving around in the Tranny and rearend. I could not get it to move in one gear at all. I thought I had all that worked out ...moved all the gears in the vise with the tranny. Oh well ...back in the Garage and remove Tranny and completely tear it down . The gears on the lower shaft was stuck in the case. I spent about 3 hours getting the input shaft retaining ring out.....:banghead3
I found out the front bearing had been changed out before with a sealed type and whoever installed it beat up the shield pretty good.  Found the replacement bearings at Napa and will replace the retaining ring with real Snap rings. Bearings should be in today and hopefully get back to where I was 2 days a ago !

I'm feeling your frustration...I currently have more down than running because of other peoples repairs...(using that word "repairs" loosely !)

Be careful with that front snap-ring Snuffy !   Most times a common snap-ring will prevent the "Nose Cone" from seating properly & if you fail to notice .. you will crack it while trying to tighten it down.

That ring on new bearings most times too big at bump-out for pliers. The cut-out in bearing retainer is not cut out enuf to clear it. If old snap ring not wrecked from old bearing, put it back on. I have never tried grinding new one down to clear, not sure if workable idea.

Thanks for the heads up guys....hadn`t thought about that.  I liked to have never got it out...the one in the back was worse being up inside the case. I had a pick I bought years ago that has 3 tips that screw in.....before I was done I had 2 in action in one hand and driving a flat end screw driver I had sharpened in the gap to finally pry it out. I might be able to use the old one .....
