With transmission issues there are so many things that can go wrong its hard to tell with out taking it apart and inspecting it. It can be anything from a cir clip that shifted, to a key that sheared , a broken gear , or bent shift dog.

Welcome to GTT. Look in our Manuals Section for the transmission manual for that Jake. In the manual should be a "Troubleshooting Guide". It will help you to figure out the possible problems. Tranny problems greatly decrease the value of a tractor. Good Luck, Rick

Take your shifter off and make sure it's not stuck in gear. While in Neutral the forks will be lined up and look like a Slot.Thinking 1 of the forks may have come apart or someone had the shifter off and put it back in while it was in 2nd or 3rd gear.Or someone jammed it in gear and snapped the shift fork off.

Should look like this if it's in neutral.

I happen to have a 3 speed here on a parts tractor that had a blown out differential and worn out input shaft bearings and shift detent ball springs are shot.It also leaks oil out of every seal but it should help you determine if your stuck in gear.

Here's a dirty pic for ya.It's not quite in neutral.Slot where the shifter sits should be straight up and down in neutral.

Thanks for the pic, i should pick it up this weekend, I was told it was opens up in working condition but when they put it back it wouldn't work, I'm guessing the sift fork isn't in correctly, I will update when I get it

I picked it up, looked up serial and it's a 1965, however it doesn't have the removable shifter, at transaxle does this have? It says jmc
