The 18hp Briggs is shot. What other engines will work in this that will allow the PTO to still be used. Briggs opposed twins seem to be getting hard to come by.

Seems like the 2000 series cubs make for a really good option for repowering something.Since they usually rust apart long before the engines goes bad.

look at the 2130-2206 tractors here http://www.tractorda...ive-sorted.html

2000 series cubs from 1994-2002 had

(Kohler engines) (single cylinder) 12,14,15 and 16hp

(Kohler twins) 17 18 and 20hp

(Briggs Vanguard)  16hp twin

Here's 2 16hp engines out of 2000 series cub cadets that will work.

That and If you can find an older Craftsman II GT18,GT5000,GTV16 or GTV18 with horizontal opposed twin engine.Would be your cheapest option.

Here is 1 for $125 not sure if it's vertical or horizontal.V-Twin or Opposed twin.

Here's a 20hp Honda for $600

The 995 used the L head early and later used the Vanguard, maybe you can find a Vanguard
