I don't know what they consider an attack and whatever it is from a Microsoft network isn't necessarily from Microsoft Corporation.  I assume Microsoft leases servers just like Google, Amazon etc.

I lease a server for my business.  When I look at the logs I see dozens of access per hour from Microsoft, Google, Yahoo etc.  These are typically search engines gathering information to index web pages.

I also see a number of true attacks per hour.  These generally take the form of attempts to log in to popular software using default or simple username and password combinations.  If you've got a Wordpress site and you don't change the default password you're going to be hacked, and it won't take long.

I know what Alan is talking about. I constantly get calls from New Jersey saying they are Microsoft wanting to take over my computer and fix it.

I've always heard that Microsoft has two rooms full of people.  In one, the goal is to hack or attack computers and in the other, they fix it.  That (if true) could be viewed a couple of different ways and who knows the level of truth behind it.  Yes, the map is scary but should be expected in the information age.  If people just took their abilities and used them for good instead of evil...

Wow, that's interesting.

I have two fellows at my website who manually approve members.  For every real member wanting to join, they have about a dozen spammers trying to get on just to be ***holes.

Tech companies do hire hackers to test their software/systems.

I get those all the time. I screw with them too and keep them on the phone as long as I can to prevent them from calling more people who might be fooled by it. I told the last one I had 8 computers and only two ran windows and I wasn't sure which ones so I would have to boot them up one by one, find the passes etc. I kept him on the phone for a half hour before he hung up on me. I kep asking him questions about his life and telling him amusing anecdotes about jelly making.

Yes, I make jelly.

Yes I do. Most of my Jelly is wine based and not fruit. I like wine jellies.
