this winch is in the main shed at dad's PB290095.JPG i had to use some sump oil on it as it was starting to seize from sitting near moisture

there is 2 more out in the paddock on a steel base that i oil every 6 months to keep them right , they still got wire rope ( cable ) on them

Thats some heavy duty gearing on that. I have one similiar to that. If you use the crank on the small gear shaft you get serious pulling. On mine there's a spot to put the crank onto the larger gear to wind the cable up quicker or let it out quicker. Mine came installed on  a  car hauling trailer that I had bought.

That is kool but it does not look very strong. The frame looks very limited in capacity. I would bet that it was built for carefull movement of something or it had to be used with a couple of snatch blocks(pulley system) to do heavy work.  Good Luck, Rick
