i have a 67 custom 6 & I need a mowing deck for it. I've found one that is model # 917.252031 off of a suburban compact 7. Will this fit my tractor?

Yes, if you mean Sears Compact 7, which is the same as the Custom series --though some models came with a gearbox without high-low capabilities-- but be careful with those decks and mowing heavy grass.  The drive system is made up of two gearboxes, a splined shaft and two splined collars.  Those collars and shafts, especially at this age, are easily stripped. But, surprisingly enough, most of the parts are still available through Sears.

A Suburban deck will not fit.  Two different drive systems and a Custom deck will only have two blades.

The deck that I'm looking at is off of a suburban compact. So I guess as long as it's a compact it'll work. Sorry I new to this & kinda confused. You said that a suburban Would not fit it. That is the model number on the deck. What about a ballpark price for a decent deck. 917.252031

I'm sorry the guy is saying it came off of a Suburban Compact 7. The model number on the deck is 917.252031. I've looked for a deck/rotary mower number for mine, but haven't had much luck. Any help would be appreciated.

It appears to be the right kind of deck for the Custom tractors.
Only confusion is the lift handle pictured... They were bolted to the tractor on the customs.
The drawing at Sears is really bad tho....

Bottom line, the custom decks were gear distributed, feed belt comes in vertically.
the suburban is belt distributed, feed belt comes in horizontally.

What's he asking? I would say if in the $100 ball park for a deck you need... It should be fine.

He has it on eBay. Buy it now for $175. Here is the link

Vintage Sears Suburban Compact 7 Mower Deck # 917.252031

On eBay, it has a vertical pulley on it. I'm thinking that it'll work from the pictures. Was thinking about starting out $75 to $100.
Thanks for all your help. I'm not going to mow with it really just want to have it with the tractor to restore them together. I have 3 other mowers that I cut with.

We know your knew, but you can't use "suburban" and "compact" in the same sentence to describe one tractor, it's either -or. While they share some of the same parts, the compact was more of Sears entry level garden tractor and the decks will not interchange as you may be finding out and the front implements for a suburban will not fit a custom/compact.

If the seller is using those words, he maybe not knowing himself or he is using them as tag words for searches

I would say maybe $100, but it depends on how bad you need/want it. Price is dependent on how much buyer will spend.

Thanks, that's how he is explaining it in the link that I posted earlier. I have found that the manual for that model number 917.252031 show a 38" rotary mower for custom tractors. I just didn't see a year on it. Mine is a 67 custom.

If it's a 38", then it's a deck for a Custom.

Suburban is a completely different line of tractors to the Custom/Compact series.

From the looks of the picture it's steel. I have an email out to him with a few questions & that's one of them.
