My mate Chris is working on my Bolens 850 and we were wondering how much gear oil we need to refill her? The oil we will be using is SAE 90 GL1 gear oil as pictured.

Thanks

Is there not a level plug where you fill it? Hopefully I'll finish my G14 box this week end so can check the oil distribution and noise to see if it quietens down with an increase in level.

Not sure Phil; will find out in due course.

Chris been busy with cleaning up my 850 with a steam cleaner. Looking good for an old lady. Hopefully will have some photos of the 850 being cleaned.

The gear-drive tube-frame transaxles take approximately  2.5 US Quarts = 2.365 Litres to fill when empty.

The fill plug on the rear of the transaxle is also the level plug.  ...Fill until the gear lube is overflowing from the fill opening.

As it happens, Chris sent me a picture of it being cleaned. Looks a good and effective way of cleaning it!
