This is an old post style BBQ. Some of you may remember them. I bought this used in 1980. Being in the propane business, I was able to fix it up for a reasonable price. It needed a burner, top grate and burner valves repaired. Which I did.

I cooked cakes, biscuits, pizzas, and many other tastes treats on it. Over the years, I put four or five burners in it, a bottom grate, another top grate and repaired the rusted post three times.

It didn't come with a shelf, so after 10 years of ownership, I decided to make a shelf. My father and I heated and bent the flat metal to fit and put a piece of an old kitchen counter top on for the shelf.

So after 25 to 30 years of use, it was done. The burner was gone, don't know if you could get a burner for a post style BBQ anymore, the post was rusted away, and the burner valve needed replacing, which I doubt you could get.

So I stopped useing it. Threw the old top part with burner away. Used the shelf part for drinks and things. Then I had the idea of making a plant holder out of it.

So put a piece of old 4" duct work in for the post, painted it all up, found an old pot and put that in, bought a plant and stuck it in. And there you have it.

Noel

We cook 99% of everything we eat on the grill..summer and winter..and like you we cook everything on the grill like you cakes, biscuits, pizzas. The new ones just dont hold up well at all, have to replace them about ever 2 years..A buddy of mine gave me one this year, and I hope it last for a long time..he used it 3 times in the past 4-5 years so its in good shape and it is HUGE..has the inferred burners and all..they seem to rust out faster when you smoke stuff on them..but this one has its own smoking tray with it so I hope it last.It even has lights in it for night cooking(I kid you not)That is creative what you did with your old one...its always hard to toss them when they are used up.

Neat idea.

I've owned a few grills.

They all last about he same. They make the outsides all fancy fancy with stainless ect but the insides rot out of them.

They don't want to make them tough anymore. They want you to buy a new one every year

I bought a "nice" Kenmore stainless 4 burner at the fall grill sell off for 149.99 normally 300 dollars. It's lasted 2 years so far, but I have taken more precautions with it. I put it away during the winter. I cover it when I'm not using it.

I LOVE the 4 burners. It cooks fantastic. Much more heat control than the single burners. Only reason I bought it was because it was only 50 more than the 99 I usually buy
