I have a 317 that has a Onan engine.  Trying to figure out which WIX filter to use on it. I went on the WIX site and it show a #51348 if it has a Onan replacement engine and a #51410 if it still has the Kohler. Why would they change the filter for the rear if it had a engine swap??

I would think the engine itself would have no bearing on what filter was used on the Hydrostat.

I just looked up the 317 at JD and their filter is an AM39653 which crosses to the Wix 51410.

Here is the listing from the Wix filter website application guide http://www.wixfilter....aspx?Section=1 in pdf form - it confirms the part number that KennyP posted.  If you go to the Wix website and look it up you can click on the part number to view the specs - fyi

My 318 uses the same JD and Wix filters. Here's the tranny cross reference I have (probably from another GT forum) for other manufacturers:

Hydro Filter:
AM39653 cross to:
Stens 120265 Purolator L14670 Purolator PureONE PL14670 Fram PH2844
Wix 51410 AC Delco PF13 K&N HP-2004
Bosch 3402 Mobil M1-204 STP S16

I recently changed the filter and fluid on my 318, and went with the Wix filter. I also changed the air filter, Wix again, and found it a little pricey, over $20.

Something I discovered with Wix filters.

They  will show a replacement filter for a OEM filter number which is as close to a match as possible.

If you go to the Wix application charts they may recommend a totally different filter.

Years ago I was involved with a couple of field surveys Wix did for two large companies. They always compared the OEM filter to what they thought was a better choice if there was one and that is how the differences were created. They said we should always use the Wix application charts and I think they were correct.

Ok, now I feel like a boob.

I started thinking if that might be the case.

Thank you Sir, now I guess I have to run to town and get the correct filter for this thing.

The 51348 is the same one as my PT Cruiser. At least my Onan and PT cruiser will use the same engine oil filter :D
