Greetings:

I came into a 314 and 317 and am looking to fix them up a bit. Would anyone out there be willing to share an electronic copy of the service manuals for either or both machines?

Thanks,
Nathan

Great, and glad to be here; thanks! I'm just starting to get into some of the more classic JD stuff, and I'm so glad I haven't waited a minute longer :-) In time, I'm also hoping to branch out to other manufacturers, but for now it seems the JD stuff is a good start.

I have a 314 and would be interested in any service info. as well. There is some basic info for the 140 in the manuals section which is somewhat applicable to the 314/317 and there is a 317 parts book which can be helpful but I keep running into issues that need the service info. I think JD charges 80$ for it.

That's a parts manual Ducky. I did download that and it is helpful but a service manual gives details on how to service and repair, adjust etc. Deere keeps pretty tight control over those manuals. They are hard to find. The funny part is that aftermarket suppliers of manuals charge more than Deere does for them.

I have been looking for information on servicing the 314. Even though there is no service manual on this forum there is still a lot of info. available in the manuals section to help with servicing a 314/317. I took a look at the 200 series service manual and the electrical section is very similiar to the 314. The switches and controls are mostly the same and the wire colours match up. My 314 has had the wiring butchered but it looks like the schematics are pretty much identical. The engine service information is there for the 314 as well. The 214 has the same engine with a different PTO clutch and without the driveshaft coupler.
The transmission information is in the 140 CTSM document. The later ser. no. 140's have the same hydro/rear axle setup. The hydraulics section for the 140 is also very similiar as are the brakes and steering gear. There are detail differences and feature differences between them.
Although there are a few gaps in the information what is there is a big help for most problems.

Hello,
I'm new to the forum, but thought this would be a good place to look for some help. I've been working my LT166 for several years, but the son-in-law called last night and wants to unload his 317 with tiller. I probably paid too much, but what're you gonna do? Anyway, I'm trying to locate an Operator's Manual, Parts List, or Service Manual for the 317. Can anyone help? I always try to keep manuals with my equipment and keep them in good shape, so I'm trying to get a leg up before the 317 gets here. Thanks....

I have the 140 Service Manual, scanned in in three sections, if anybody wants it. Sounds like it might be useful for some parts of the the tractors discused here. Send me a PM with your E-mail address if you want it.

Harlan,

What serial numbers does your manual cover? The later tractors have some significant differences from the early one.

Trav1s:

The title is "Service Manual John Deere 140 Hydrostatic Tractor (Serial Number 30,001- ). So, 30,001 and up.

Hope this helps.
