Back in the day we use to wear tubes of sand strapped around our bodys to make us stronger swimmers. Today they use these inflatable things called water wings just to keep afloat ....haha

Fashions of yesterday when taking a dip

Looking back in history can be quite a trip

What looks so strange and very out of place

Was once in fashion at the local swimming race

A floatation device made out of hose and cork

Some would consider today make you look like a dork

Tied to the body to keep you uplifted

While moving in water you felt really gifted

It kept you from sinking - your head above water

It made someone able to swim just like an otter

This device may look strange to someone like us

But for them it was normal - no reason to fuss

When the water was cold as it sometimes can be

They stayed afloat for there brisk swim at sea

A piece of history caught in a pose on a book page

To show us where we once were in this journey of age

So what we consider out of place and strange attire

Was once the forerunner of the latest fashion desire

Don't laugh or snicker but instead thank the stars above

That someone took this project on as a labour of love

And gave us the floatation devices we have today

That work so much better and save lives everyday
