Can anyone out her help me identify my mtd ? I just recently came across this tractor, it has the briggs 16 hp motor cast iron,12 inch rear wheels , electric lift kit was with it but not on it. It also had a cluster of like 6 solenoids, not sure what they were all for. Any comments would appreciated thanks .

Welcome to GTT. Without a few clear pics, I can't identify your tractor. A cast iron B&S 16hp might be a 990 which is a good GT. Look in the Manuals Section and see if it matches. Good Luck, Rick

OK, new guy! Hey, let us know about you and We Love pictures!  Lots of MTD's out there, need to know a model # and serial maybe, if you can find the tags still. Picture at least.  16 big engine sounds like the 990, but then the 12" wheels don't. There are some smaller models with that combo.  You didn't say wether hydro or manual either. Welcome to site, but need more info to really help out.

Welcome to GTtalk. You didn't say whether its a 4 speed or manual? With 12" rear tires it sounds like a 960 model but without photos I'm just guessing at this point. The solenoids are more then likely for the electric lift.

Welcome to GTtalk glad to have you. Yes the 990's have 15" wheels which is what my avatar pic is. The 960's had the 12". The 16 hp Briggs is good but with all those solenoids sounds confusing. Like mentioned throw a few pics up & we can help better.

That is a good GT. I have the 860. It is big and powerull but the PTO lever on mine is easy to hit with my right leg. Try this manual:  http://gardentractor...43-860-143-960/   Good Luck, Rick

You'd need four solenoids for the electric lift, but I can't see why six would be needed.

Yep, definitely a 960, the third pic shows the dry clutch assembly. Great tractors, more than enough oomph for any task. Love mine, sure you will love yours too!

Great Gt. There should be an ID tag under the dash in this area where the red box is..
