Hello... I just purchaced a Simplicity Baron S. Trying to figure out what size Briggs Motor is on the tractor because it needs rings but I need to know where to start. It's all original and the only numbers I can find on the Tractor is the id tag which says 979-5541. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The model # of the Briggs should be stamped into the shroud, left side as seated.

The full manufacturing number of your tractor is 990979 and the serial number is 5541. They were made in 1974 only. My favorite tractor. http://bsintek.basco...wf5kbp796Dq.pdf

I have the original engine out of mine and I had no success trying to find new rings. I finally relented and ended up repowering with a 16 hp Briggs. It's is an awesome tractor and I really like the shuttle. The manual has the proper adjustment for the shuttle mechanism. Follow it to the letter and you will really enjoy the drivetrain.
