What you were using is called a FHP (Fractional HP ) belt designed to run things like fan motors and drill presses they are not designed for L&G applications but typically the auto guys will tell you they will work as they do not carry any Covered power rated belts found at a lawn and garden dealer.

If thats the size you need I can get you one in a couple days , looking at $ 28.30 shipped to you

This is a USA made Kevlar belt which is designed for your machine , send me a PM if interested

Replaced mine with one from Rural King after I cross referenced the number. Been using it for months with no problems.

Thinking your numbers were a bit off, I walked out to the shop to double check...The one on mine is a Jason brand MXV4-980 1/2x98. While out there I checked the package labels from the other 2 belts. One is for deck to engine, the other deck/spindle.

Puzzled by the burned rubber smell but, did you make sure you had NOT put the belt on OVER the retainer?

Due to how the right belt, when correctly reinstalled, has to be rolled onto the PTO and the differences in length i.e. 98" vs. 93 I'm surprised you managed to get it on the PTO, must have been majorly tight to begin with.

I thought I had posted those lengths, but apparently not. The 101342 is a 1/2" X 93" according to NAPA. Your sizes are correct with what I had found. I wrote it down, but failed to post.
