I just picked up a set of 2 link gt chains for 20 bucks in an off-season package deal.   they are wide enough for my tires but i need to add some to the length.  i like the 2 link b/c they roll a little smoother on hardpack.  not sure how it's going to feel with a foot of gap in there tho

Maybe you could take all the links off and make them 3 link chains

I had thought of doing that a while back. Then I got to thinking how every other chain wouldn't lay as nice because of the flipped link. Then I came across a set of two links and haven't looked back.
