driving around today I picked this up for free. it's really in nice shape but trying to do some homework on it.
i assume it's early 80's. now the engine didn't run I went over it cleaned the carb new plug and what was amazing was when I pulled the head how much carbon build was on it. so after cleaning I had it running for 5 minutes or so.

now I am reading this right the tvs 4hp is a 2 stroke that takes 32 to 1 mixed gas. that would explain the carbon build up. it had regular gas in it?

anybody have any info on these?? never knew of 2 stroke mower.

the engine is tvs105 53073d. it doesn't look like 2 stroke???

According to the Tecumseh Mechanic's Handbook, the TVS105 engine is a 4-stroke engine, NOT a 2-stroke.

There was a Tecumseh 2-cycle engine used on some, but not all, 4hp Snapper mowers.

The engine on the Snapper mower in Earthgrinder's link is a TVS840 Tecumseh 2-stroke.

thanks bruce, that's what I thought but I wanted to check.
now to figure what do with it. aside from engine work it's in nice shape. I will mess with it a little more who ever was throwing it out had it overloaded with oil seemed to pull alot easier after draining some. electric start works nice too. I may just end up either repowering it or parting it out online
