I just purchased a 1981 JD400 with only 740 hours. It had been sitting for about 2 years. It came with a boom, box blade, rear mounted JD600 finish mower, and a snow blade for the front. All it needed was so 4 new tires and a battery. The main thing is that it is not configured like any others I've seen. The belly mower is not mounted but there is a drive shaft from the front PTO to the rear PTO. Then the 60" mower is mounted back there. I would send pics but this is my first post so that option is not yet available.

Looks like someone made that setup from the reg mower deck and they did a pretty nice job. That's a pretty nice 400 also you don't find many with that kind of hours

Mower operates fine. I will actually try it out later in the high weeds and grasses. Waiting for my new battery to change up. Also, I left the mower and the front blade up last night to check the hydraulics. It has now been about 23 hours and they are still up. Guess all that works fine.

Well it mowed ok until I lowered the deck too low and the PTO shafts from the tractor came out of the one on the mower. That cost me a u joint. Hope I can find one. I need a shafts about 4" longer. Also the PTO on the tractor vs the mower is offset about 2" to one side. I don't know if this is a problem but I will modify the mounts and get them centered. This will cause the mower to stick out to one side about 4" but that's ok.
