So I just did a gasket kit of my g12 as it was leaking some oil, I also did the head gasket but not the rings are it has decent compression.
I finally had time to put it back together today, and installed the mower deck.
Where trying to engage the deck the tractor falls flat on its face.
It also did this trying to take of in 2nd and 3rd high range.
I am suspecting the carb needs a rebuild, but I worry I may have not put the governor back properly, though I was confident I did.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Find a troubleshooting guide in the engine manual. We have some good ones in the Manuals Section. I would check the spark, compression, and fuel systems in that order. Good Luck, Rick

I have no luck finding a trouble shooting guide for the hh120.

Thanks!

My first tubeframe was a restored 800, everything had been done except for a carb rebuild and it behaved like you describe, once I engaged the mower deck it just died.

My carb was really plugged up, it would only idle with the choke partially engaged - after the the rebuild it ran fine.

I am going to try and clean a carb without damaging any gaskets today.

I did find a manual but nothing that pertains to lose of power under load.

Before pulling the carb apart, you can try opening the main adjuster slightly to richen the mixture.  ...The engine may be slightly rich under no load, but that is not a problem.

If you engage the deck quickly, or while moving, this often increases the load, and causes the engine to bog down or stall.

"Dumping the clutch" in high gear will often do the same thing.

Was it running well before you tore it down to do the gaskets?

It was running top notch before.

Got the carb cleaner, it helped. What are factor carb settings?

Here is a link to the manual of your engine I believe (HH-120)  - governor setting starts on page 16 if you want to double check it - also contains more information on the carb.  http://gardentractor...-engine-manual/

Thank you.

I got it running smoothly, it needed a second carb cleaning.
