Hello everyone! I'm new to this site. This is my first post. I've gotten really fond of garden tractors. It's an understatement for my wife! I wanted to share and see what y'all thought about my first Cub Cadet I just picked up a couple of days ago. I fell in love with the originals awhile ago and happen to come across this on Craigslist in my area. Only an hour drive. It's all original except a few minor things such as muffler, fuel hose and belts. Also is missing the good of ornament and IH emblem. It came with the original manuals, sales receipts, brochures and dates any parts were replaced! The s/n is 2592 bought new on March 25 1961. Does anyone have any information about these headlights? From what I know, they've been on the machine since the original owner, but I don't know if he put them on, the dealer installed them or they were a factory option. They are just bolted on with flat washers on the inside of the grill. Aslo, what do you think was a good price to pay for this? Came with the original IH #1 cart! Thank you

Welcome to GTtalk, glad to have you here. WOW, that's a nice "O" you found and it still has the original tires on it also. Look around and you can find a nice set of factory lights for it if you want. The 61's are harder to find then the 62 or 63. Enjoy the site and ask all the question you might have!!

Maybe im nitpicking but there's a saying "they're only original once" i think yours is more like "unrestored."  personally i prefer unrestored it means you can use them without ruining a museum "original" and they have all the character of surviving through the years, so many have not... i think old cubs are among the most expensive collectibles so you probably done well, good luck, welcome to the forums...

nice lookin tractor btw i wouldn't change anything other than fluids filters and check the wiring....

Thank you guys. KennyP I am not quite sure what my plans are yet. I initially wanted to restore it but once I hopped on it and started mowing I second guessed myself. Oldford has a point and I just love the feeling of being in it and just thinking of all those years it's been through, the memories of others on it ect. I don't think it'll have quite the same feel once it's restored to me. But, who knows what I'll end up doing?!

No those lights are not original. The Grill mesh looks like it might have been replaced But not 100% sure.Seen a bunch with the tighter mesh expanded metal grill and a bunch with grills like yours.

Here's a NOS headlight kit for an O.They bolt to the side of the grill.

Here take a look at this post.Hammerhead has the original headlight kit on his.

I would leave the headlights on yours only if you need to run it at night. They don't look that bad on there.Atleast there not HUGE KC Daylighters  :rolling:

That light is a Peterson back up light from the 40's and 50's , also popular on Wheelhorses.

Oh wow, thank you Halfscale! That's pretty unique! Do you know much about them or their value? EricfromPA I'm pretty sure the grill is original looking at the brochure from 61 right here. Your right about the KCs lol

Not sure on a value, It has been a while since I bought any. I have quite a few, and some are NOS, we used them in our half scale builds.

As you've already found out the lights are not original to the unit, HOWEVER the dash tower with no access hole, the rolled edge front wheels, the small slot rear wheels, and the collared king pins are all consistent with an early 4 digit Original  The trailer is an added bonus

Welcome to GTT and unless you are planning a full nut and bolt restoration I would enjoy your "O" just as it is making repairs as necessary along the way.

Just another opinion...

Welcome! Sweet find for sure! I currently do not own a Original but I have had my share of them, one of my favorites. The best looking correct & restored Original that I have seen in a while is owned by Zippy who you will find on this site. Good luck and enjoy!
