I am going to look at a 912 Hydro saturday morning and since this may be my very first allis I was looking for tips and things to look for. I have no experience with allis tractors so any tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated. Tractor looks in very nice shape cosmetically and has a 48" deck and a 12hp Kohler engine. He is asking $400 which doesn't seem bad since it runs and mows. I have put in a picture for you to weigh in on. Thanks!

IMHO....They are well built heavy duty machines that are very easy to work on as in most everything is easy to get to. The Sunstrand hydro is the best hydro in a GT in my humble opinion.

I'm not at all crazy about the position of the manual lift lever on these tractors. Check the bevel gear box shafts for excessive play.

You can't hardly beat the way Allis / Simplicity mows or their decks.

More often you see a 42 inch deck with a 12 hp.

Check out the Zippo Varga videos on Utube. He has a series on evaluating the conditions of older Allis' and Simplicitys. Good Luck, Rick

Your not going to believe how nice your lawn is going to look after it is mowed with an AC/Simplicity deck.

I have a sundstrand on one of wheel horses and it is very strong and doesn't bog down the engine too much. Some of those older tractors seem like they get bogged down with the hydro's. Thanks for the tip on the bevel gear boxes!

That is what I thought too hope the 12hp runs it ok.

Well it turns out the guy sold it out from under me when I told him I was coming Saturday morning to get it with cash. So much for that I guess.

Sorry to hear that!

Wouldn't be the first time I got burned like that on craigslist. Oh well! I'll still keep my eyes open for a 900 series Allis!
