Welcome to GTtalk!

Could you get a model number off the engine? And maybe a photo. I am thinking that it is a replacement engine. The GT 17 had a Kohler that had a few troubles. Can you tell us what it does and does not do?

Welcome to GTT. Our Manuals Section may be able to help you. The engine manual will have a "troubleshooting guide". This will help you diagnose the problem. Ask questions when you have them. Use pics to clarify the problem. Good Luck, Rick

trk.jpg trkr.jpg arien1.jpg arien2.jpg arien3.jpg arien4.jpg arien5.jpg at the moment the engine is cranking but I have to sort out the electrical wiring as it is a bit off a mess. then step 2 I think will be the carb. and then the hydraulic valve as it have to be fixed to its place and a handle to be made as the  connecting end of the valve is broken.

serial nr 931019           004793

thanks for the welcome. thys

arien6.jpg hi this morning I had a good look at the tractor. some faults I observed

1)on the carb of the b & Stratton engine the diafraim is gone. our local dealer ask for serial nr and  we cant find the nr on that engine. pic of diafraim holder in cluded

2) wiring is a mess. I need some wireing diagrams to get it all sorted out.

3) the hydraulic valve end where the lever connect is broken of and the lever is gone. so I have no idea how it looks like

I see that you are in "south Africa"  I dont know what might be different there vs Briggs engines built for usage here in the USA but usually they have a "MODEL" number, a "TYPE" number and a "CODE" number stamped somewhere on the sheet metal shrouding,

the "code" is actually the build date-- year, month, day, shift/assembly line.   most Briggs do not have an actual "serial" number, unless you go back to like the early '60's and before.

most of them got the serial no. on the sheet plate that force the air trough the fins. and one are missing and it will be the one with the nr.s I even look with a camera all around the engine. nothing. I found the manual for the engine and I will try to id the carb. and maybe get a gasket set for the carb.
