Would this work ok to beef up the top of a steering column? The bearing fits a hair loose in the column so I cut a piece of tire tube and push the bearing in for a tight fit.

Might just work! I've wrapped electrical tape around those and that seemed to help!

It's a nice fit now and steering works great! Need to get one of those bearings they use on the lower part of steering column. U wouldn't happen to know what size to get would you?

Is that the Ross steering? I think there is a thread on rebuilding those!

What happened to the other steering column that I gave you with that machine? Are you working on that column or the original one that was in the tractor??

oh ok.  I thought that one was pretty good, I was gonna do the thrust bearing upgrade to it before puttin it in. The original one though, the top of the tube was wallowed and rusty. I had talked to others, who said to pull the wheel, pull the tube and cut ~1" from it and put a new top bearing in at that point which would also mean it would have a new spot to ride on the steering shaft .

and the steering shaft would stick out of the tube that much farther though being the same shaft would mean the steering wheel being at the same stock original height.
