I;m working on a garden tractor, model 917.287500.  I have replaced the solenoid and switch, but the tractor still will not start without crossing the  solenoid.  Anyone have any ideas what the problem can be?

Do you have the right switch?

Try jumping right from the battery to the small terminal on the solenoid that connects to the key switch. If it turns over, start checking all the safety switches (clutch, pto etc). If it does not turn over, start checking for bad ground connections, starting with the solenoid itself.

There are 2 safety switches.1 for the Seat and 1 for the brake. Did you check your Fuse? Should be a 20 amp fuse hidden in there somewhere.

Make sure your new Solenoid is properly secured and grounded.A bad PTO switch on these newer tractors will act like a bad solenoid that doesn't click.

Your tractor wiring is slightly different than the YS4500 I had here. Here's your wiring diagram and parts.
