I have been working on a 1256 most of the winter off and on. Now I am at the rear wheel that has the posi lock up wing nut. It is rusted so badly that I had the break the snap ring, now the big nut will not turn. My question is does it turn off all the way and can I heat it without destroy seals?

The control knob threads right off and behind there are your cotter pin and castle nut for the rear axle end play adjustment.

Have you tried some PB blaster? If if you jacked up the one side and let the PB blaster soak down into the threads for a few hours it may break free.

Heat in that area would most likely burn up the outer seal. They have two or three seals on that side. Maybe just the penetrating fluid and some tapping with a hammer while putting pressure on counter clockwise with an adjustable.

I got it and thanks guys. I used my home made penetrating oil and a very small hammer. I will swear by the homemade oil.
