I will say, we often get interns I guess you could call them, from the voed classes of high school seniors.
Once they get settled a little bit, we'll ask some basic questions. Nothing hard mind you, not the kind of math one needs to do on a daily basis in a machine shop, first question is usualy just a multiple of 10. eg. "a pound of beef is $1.50 you want to buy 10 pounds how much is it?". So far in the last 6 years, none have answered it without a calculator, and one never answered at all.
Out of those, one of the better ones was looking for parts for his truck, comparing shipping costs , ask me witch side of the missippi we were on.....

It was explained to me that she was coached to say something about South Africa's education and try to mention Iraq as well. Well, she did just all at once...I would like to think stage fright got the best of her, but she's been on stage plenty, so ........ duh!
