I get the mental image of this place handing out mandatory crack pipes to all their employees. Some days, there are good deals, others, not so much.

Too much I think. However, if it were a darker shade of green it would be another $495 on top.

Haha I used to live in Meadville I worked at 5 star international in Erie I'm sure you know where that's at. I hated meadville

Probably went down to the local dealer priced a NEW plastic version and said well mine will last longer than that and is way better !

So why not ask the same $$$  ?

One of the Sunrunners with dump bed and 16 h.p. engine, just sold locally about a month ago for $400. It had really nice paint and fresher tires.

That is what they showed the customer for it on trade.  That is also the number they will use when they write it off as a loss with the tax man.  If it doesn't sell for $995, they sell it for scrap for $20 and write it off their taxes for $975 loss.
