I've searched the forum, and can't find much on the H18XL.

I'm assuming that it's a Large Frame, but not really sure.

There is one for sale locally. Ad says that: "New Starter motor and exhaust. Hydrostatic drive. 48" mower deck with hydraulic lift. Runs but needs engine tuned."

No pic, so I'm not sure of the overall condition.

Can anyone here give me some info on the H18XL? Is it a desirable/decent tractor?

Also, what would be a fair value, assuming that the ad is telling the truth, and that it's in 1/2 decent shape as far as rust, etc.

It not a large frame. A H18xl is a midframe.

OK, being a medium frame helps some.

Still, I'm wondering what would be a fair offer on one like the above? That's assuming that the ad isn't "stretching the truth", and that it isn't a piece of rusted junk.

Would $300.00 too low/high/reasonable?

They were a decent lawn mower. I dont like the mule drive set up or the electric pto on them. I am guessing it has the Tecumseh engine? Parts are way over priced for them on ebay in my opinion. If it has a new, orginal style muffler on it, thats about half the cost of what the asking asking price is. But as a lawn mower, if it is usable, is it worth 300 to you? I am still sweet on the tube frames.

$300 seems good. That's what I sold my H16XL with deck for last fall. I still have a spare electric clutch for it.

Last summer I picked up a H18XL for $325. The motor smoked and I needed to replace the front axle mount but it came with the 42" single stage snow blower, the 48" mowing deck and the 33" rototiller. So if is in decent shape and doesn't smoke I think $300 isn't too bad.

They look to be a decent tractor overall.
Eaton 11 Hydro tranny with Shaft drive.I don't mind the electric PTOs that much. The manual ones when they break or wear out are a pita. But fairly cheap to fix.
That 18hp Tecumseh is a powerhouse but as stated above they are quite expensive to fix if it needs rebuilt.
The OHV heads always seem to be the problem part on them.Valves and valve guides and head gaskets.

For $300 I would grab it up.If the PO would happen to have any other attachments for it I would see about getting those to.Attachments are a bit hard to find for the XL series tractors.

There was an attachment cross reference sheet for the XL series but I can't seem to find it.
