I've wanted to do something like that ever since I saw the video on the Fordson snowmobile.

I've had dreams of building one of these things too.
Hydraulics would be the way to go for the drive train.

As painful as that was to watch, it had some cool moments. As you guys said, hydro drive, and being an old off shore performance boater, I believe he needs a bit more pitch and diameter to the screws.

From his video, total time invested 300hrs, total distance traveled 200ft. Back to the drawing board...
that backhoe recovery machine is pretty cool too

You can buy a backhoe similar to it from Harbor Freight.
