I am being given a 165 Hydro for Free. He thinks it is late 70's or early 80's. PO hooked the battery up backwards, and there is some burnt wires. Garage kept. Couldn't pass it up for the price. What can you tell me about this?

It reminds me of the 111 hydro I picked up. At least it isn't painted with house paint.

Made in the late 80's. Kawasaki powered, 12.5 hp if original. 38" mower deck. In good condition, one of the best LT's ever made by JD. Great mower for a small lot. Very good quality of cut, tight turn radius for an older machine.

Known problems: starting issues due to resistance or corroded wires/connections, $5 fix to wire in a common auto relay.

Drive belt is a pain to replace.

Verify wire condition to electric clutch, can cause issues.

Thanks, I should know more next week when I get it. Any manuals or wire diagrams available? More pictures when I get it.

larrybl:

Nice find. As I've said recently, free is always good. Check your Personal Messages  (PM). I have some info on manuals that might help.

I have the little john at my office (Note name)! Looks like a good Grandson project! and something he can use to help Pap mow. I'll take detailed pictures tomorrow evening when I get it home. A new wire harness is definitely needed.

I'll start another thread (Little John) for this project.
