I tried to  put the deck on my tractor today. I hooked it all up and the height adjuster lever don't work. there is a link right behind the right rear pin that attaches to the tractor that has a bolt on one end. and a slot that goes over a pin.does anyone have a pic of the correct setup when it is on a tractor? Im baffled. I picked the deck up with a forklift, forks were under where it attaches to tractor, so deck hung down, then the lever worked.

I have a Sears SS16 twin and I believe two different mower decks will work on that tractor.  My mower deck has a scissor type lift on each side of the deck as shown in the picture. Is this any help?

I have a ST16 at the farm with a deck. I can take pics if it'll help.
One thing, I remember that some of the rear hangers have two sets of holes. It may make a difference which hole it's in when bolted to the tractor.

I don't think there's any real difference in the deck mounting from 70 on up to late 70's I interchange my decks around all the time which ever ones handy I install it on what ever tractor I want a deck on generally put the 48" one on the SS16 but have had it on both of the ST16's. I not sure I understand what your saying some pictures may help clear things up. There are 4 spring loaded pins that attach the deck to the tractor no bolts the back tractor mounts a slotted and the front mts just have a hole for the pin, I get the deck under the tractor and use the lift lever to raise and lower the scissor levers to align the rear pins the then have to raise the front of the deck a bit to get the front pins in and locked. Here's a manual for the 48" deck the 42" is the same. If your deck looks like this it will fit

I'm not sure whats going on but the slotted strap is suppose to remain vertical its not suppose to pivot at the attach bolt should remain as it is in the 3rd photo. Ok went into town and looked at one of the decks and took a couple of pictures when the lift lever is all the way back, the deck up position the arm on the pivot rod that is attached to the slotted part needs to be flat back on the deck and the slotted arm will be slightly aft of vertical when the lift lever is all the way forward / deck down  the arm on the pivot rod will be up towards vertical and the slotted arm just about vertical just slightly forward.HPIM2470.JPG HPIM2471.JPG

Yes for some reason the arm on the pivot rod is not right  look at the pics I just attached and see if you see something. Look to see if the weld on the pivot rod broke and was re-welded wrong.

Thanks for taking the time to do that for me mmgb. I thought the same thing about broken welds, didnt see any or re welded .i will compare your pics with the deck,.i could use it with the handle on wrong but it would irritate me worse than my underware stuffed with steel wool. I still have time before i need to mow , not going to give up.
