Lookin at the JD 304 because of no movement up hills and found this. Looks like an adjustment for something. Any ideas.
Belt looks good and idlers are not stuck.

Hi Noel. Not sure but it may just be a way of accessing what looks like a check valve. Have you checked the axle keys and the key or set screw in the pulley on the trans. If the trans shaft isn't turning at full speed it won't have much power. Axle keys can sometimes shear off and cause no or very little drive. 

You can find info on those trans at the Kanzaki web site. They make all JDs transmissions, even some big ones for compact tractors.  It will have a number on it somewhere- The models all start with K, like K52.
