Hi guys,

New to the forum but not Gravely. I was given an old Promaster 300 with a blown engine. Any advice on what to do? It is a 20hp and I have another one just like it that I use to mow my lawn. Just would love to fix it or find another engine.

What happened to the engine ?  if it just  wore out and needs a rebuild then go for it.  otherwise just look for a replacement engine, should be easy enough to retrofit another motor on there.

being a vertical shaft it will be 10x easier and at least 3x cheaper to find a replacement  good, used engine than it would be if it had a horizontal shaft engine.

Thanks guys. I think it has a broken rod, she is locked up. I have been looking for another engine, but they seem to be hard to come by. My buddy at the Gravely shop said they put Briggs 44Q777-3136 new engines on these. Just don't want to spend a grand if I could just find an old Kohler?

OK, Where's Uncle Willie? I need him? Here's' you guys something different. It's my other hobby. Old phonographs dating back to the late 1890's. And old cars too, I have a 1967 RS Camaro restored one owner.

Well guys, my Kohler was trashed. So I bought a new Briggs 27 hp and a new seat. Also got some Gravely paint from my buddies over at the Gravely shop. I am doing a complete restore.
