Just brought this home today, it's a 7016, it came with a 36" tiller and a 48" mower deck. It has been sitting for a while, I dumped some fresh gas in it, sanded the points and it fired right up. It smokes pretty bad, I'm going to stick some rings in it when I get some time. I'm going to put the mower on tomorrow and take it for a spin.

The best part of all, it was FREE!!!!!

Congrats sure can't beat that. I have a friend that has a 7016 with a tiller...total work horse. I've been trying to find him a deck for his. I would run it for awhile with some MMO in it to see if the smoking stops. My 16hp briggs smoked on my MTD 990 then cleared up using MMO. Hope it works out good for you.

The upper one is the throttle. Lower is the PTO.

Nice looking tractor.

I agree with running it with the Marvel Mystery Oil(MMO). It has worked wonders for me. You may need to adjust the carb and change the oil within the first half hour. Sometimes the smoking is partly because the carb is too rich. Good Luck, Rick

If it has been setting for a while I would clean the carb. and put some MMO in the cylinder let it set and run it some before rings. I have a 7010 and love it for mowing.

Good Luck

Thanks for everyone's info, I'll try some Marvel Mystery Oil and see what happens.

I went out today to install the mower deck, I found out that the lift (mechanical hand lift) will not raise up all the way? it comes about half way back and it feels like it's hanging up on something? I also found out that the middle spindle (that the pulley is mounted on) has a lot of play. I will get it pulled and will most likely put bearings in it.

Anyone have any ideas for the belly lift?

Thanks

I believe that the cable goes up and over a pulley, could be it has slipped off and is riding on the shaft that pulley is mounted on. I think I had that problem on mine but I could be thinking of another unit I worked on. Worth a look ....

Bingo, I climbed under the tractor, the cable on the rear lift was off the pulley, it wedged its self between the pulley and the pulley mount.

I had to remove the pulley to get the cable out, I got the tiller mounted and everything seems to work just fine

Here are some pictures of some tilling I did today, It seems like this old GT and Tiller do a great job!

I'm going out to buy some Marvel Mystery Oil Monday Morning, this GT smokes but not to bad. It's mainly when the engine is throttled up is when it puts out a cloud of smoke.

Is it a black smoke (carb./gas) or blue tint smoke (oil) ?

Blue smoke, it's definitely burning oil, so far it has burned about a half quart the short time I have been using it.

I got some MMO today, I dumped some in the gas and in the oil. I also dumped some straight on the cylinder and let it soak in for for several hours.

I'm going to keep running it around and see if it gets any better.

Anyone know how long it normally takes for the MMO to start taking affect?

I have also noticed some play in the tiller, anyone know if that's normal or do I need to pull it apart and see what is wrong.
