I have a Gilson rear engine rider that I want to put a 12 HP engine on to replace the 8 HP that was on it. Bolting the engine on is not a problem but one thing has me wondering. I think the crankshaft is bigger on the 12 so I will have to use different pulleys . Still not a problem , but I the Peerless 5 speed transmission has a pulley on it for a narrow belt. 3L maybe? I wonder if the drive belt was a narrow belt for a reason , or can I convert to a wider ( 4L) belt that I have already, or can easily get pulleys for? Clearance is not a factor.

I can't think of a reason not to go with the 4L belt and pulleys.

If I where you, I'd go for it.
