I used to leave the battery in the tractor which was stored in an unheated shed but now I take it out and leave it in the garage for the winter after fully charging it. I make sure to cover the terminals to make sure it doesn't get shorted by accident.

Lawn and garden battery lasts 3-4 years tops for me. I try to upgrade to car batteries when they fit.

Farm & Fleet discounts GT batteries in the spring for about $18-20 with a core. How many can you buy for the price of a car battery?
