Hi all, this is my first post in GTT and as the title states I just picked up a bolens ride a matic this past weekend and now I'm on the search for any and all info that I can dig up on this awesome machine. I wasn't exactly looking for another project, but when a long lost friend from high school contacted me through facebook about having me weld him up a weight box for his brinly back blade with the payment being this little RAM I was quickly overcome by the need to make it mine haha! I don't know for sure what year it is, he seemed to think 1958, I believe it has a different flywheel cover on it from a newer kohler engine model, the engine turns over easily but it doesn't seem to have any compression. Overall I think it will make a great little project as mostly all of the parts are there and in fair condition. I fear that once I get it going I won't want to ride my cub around nearly as much as I do now, but then again I do have a lot of time and sweat invested in that one.

Welcome to GTtalk.

That is a 1958 Bolens Ride A Matic.  It is missing the ID tag and belt guard from what I know.

I say if it was a trade for a little welding you did good to bad the id tag and the belt guard is missing.

I think you need to check your links, I get the 'this album is private' message when I click on them.

I don't have a problem seeing them on the laptop. Even sounds like Jerome was able to see them. Maybe your reputation proceeded you??     :D

That's a nice early RAM you got there. Are you sure you will be driving it as I think the young lad got other ideas!

Nice machine and looks to have nice straight sheet metal

Besided the missing belt guard , The front shroud has been replaced and they originally did not have recoil start on this model

Thanks for the replies guys, I tried to do some searching on the forums to figure out how to embed my photobucket photos into my post but I couldn't come up with anything so I just winged it haha! I'm hoping to make a little progress on it this coming weekend, I want to pull the sheet metal and flywheel off the motor to see what condition things are in, and also separate the carburetor and air filter so I can get the carb soaking in some pinesol in the ultra sonic machine.

OK, I figured out the picture thing now, this is what I welded for my friend that initiated the trade.

Here's a pic of where I found it sitting when I picked it up, luckily it had only been outside for a couple of weeks

So can any of you tell me how exactly the reverse works on these RAMs? I briefly read the manual and it mention the friction material on the versa matic drive system, but mine looks to be in pretty bad shape?
