Are there some good websites/discussions that talk about regearing the Hi/Low 3 Speed (6 total) gears in a Sears Suburban? I am not looking to pull, but just looking for some good reading material like Brain Miller's Website and Midwest Super Cubs website that talk about ratios.

Thanks, Dan

Never seen anyone regear the Sears.
They have so many gears with the high low that most overlap well enough.

I suppose maybe some of the later units would have different gearing in them, not sure if they're compatible or interchangeable.

I know of only one site with gear ratios -
www.mytractorforum.com/14-craftsman-sears-forum/216622-ss16-transaxle-gear-ratios.html

It includes:
[i]Here's the ratios:
High Range: 1st- 2.1, 2nd- 3.9, 3rd- 5.5, Rev- 2.5 (to 1)
Low Range: 1st- .80, 2nd- 1.6, 3rd- 2.7, Rev- 1.0 (to 1)
These ratios were used on all the Suburbans

I hope this helps,

Are you sure that's the ratios? Looks more like the mph speeds for each gear.

I was not the original source for the gear ratio information, but the attached chart is from the 1973 Sears Tractor brochure. It shows the speed in MPH for each gear. They are similar to the gear ratios but not the same. It lists top speed at 6.5 mph versus the 5.5 gear ratio.
