I have a 318 and I bought it used I get a lot of grass and debris up in the engine compartment and even in air cleaner is this common on these tractors. Also it like to shut off when I am mowing and some times it will start some times it won't start back up for a while I have done tune up changed points also some times acts as if not charging thanks for any input

Welcome to GTtalk. There's supposed to be a belly screen under the engine area to stop all that from getting to the engine, does yours have it in place?

I hope the mods can move this over to the JD section.  What is the serial number on the tractor, it will help the 318 gurus give you the support you are looking for.

  • Texas Deere and Horse said thank you

It's always nice, to welcome a new JD owner! Maybe pics can be helpful to find an answer.
