I bought this lawn tractor back in November. I believe that it is a 1967 (55300) or 1968 (55301) Toro Suburban 10 lawn tractor, I cannot find a name plate anywhere on the mower. This has the cast iron 10 HP Kohler engine. I bought this because i needed a mower and i have been interested in getting an older lawn tractor that worked but needed some minor work.

When i bought this, the only thing that was needed was the belt for the mower. I have been having trouble finding the correct size belt. I cannot find anywhere that lists the size belt that is needed, I found the parts manual and it only shows the drive belts. I have tried a 5/8" 75" long belt and it seemed to be too tight, i then tried a 5/8" 76" long and that pops off the pulleys when i engage the mower.

I was hoping someone would be able to help me figure out few things that i have questions on.

What size belt is needed for the mower?

Where should the name plate be that states the model number and serial number?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Welcome to GTtalk.  Please check our manuals section and see if there are any additional manuals that may give you more info.  I would think a good lawn mower shop should be able to figure out what size belt you need.  I'm sure one of our members will probably know.

Excellent tractor Jeff. Go on Toro.com and go to manuals, for model type in 55300, it should get you to a downloadable manual. Will edit a link in here as soon as my internet cooperates.

Thank you for your quick feedback and the info. This Sprinfield manual has helped out a lot and actually showed the main drive belt for the mower, I just need to find the dimensions of it and where to buy it.

I do have a copy of the manual for the Toro Suburban 10/12 but it did not show the mower attachment parts list.

Just a thought but it looks like you may have a mouse next under your engine tins, the batting that is on top of the motor is usually a good sign that mice have gotten in and made a home. This can cause a fire or can cause overheating and engine failure from lack of airflow. Just something to check out and it will give you the opportunity to get to know your machine better. Good luck!

From the picture it looks like the belt is riding high in the pulley, are you sure it doesn't take a 1/2" belt? Nice tractor by the way.

55300 manual including mower deck

55301 manual but no parts list for mower deck

http://www.wheelhors...=downloads_file

Gates replace the 7-0630 belt with a double 3/8" belt tied together by a band on the outside. 75" long Gates # 3V750

Looks like the 42 SD deck was model 59004 from 1967-1971.

Thank you for your thought, i will have to look into that more. i know the person who owned it before me kept it in a barn, maybe this is just left over from then. I will have to get in there and clean it out to make sure I wont have a fire or failure.

Looks like the belt that is needed is 3/8". At the store i went to the only size i found was 5/8" so thats where i started, turns out it was way too big and is sitting too high on the pulley.
