Wards?  Made by Gilson then?  Think variable speed is just one of those horizintal discs with a rubber wheel that is vertical and rides on that disc, changing speed by moving in or out on the diameter to change ratios.  Never was much of a trans and slipped alot and wore out the rubber wheels. Had to buy the wheels every so often as common maintainance.  Who made parts, don't know.

I'm glad Davids wife said he was in "rare form" much nicer than what folks say about me sometimes when I'm like that !

I'm still laughing on this post, you guys made my day !

To the original poster, Chevy 2, sorry I have no idea, but I'm sure somebody on here will eventually give you a legitimate answer !

If you can locate the model number, let me know and I will look for the manual. I have for 10 and 12 hp and for the 16hp. I believe that the vari drive is a spring loaded pulley system, not the wheel on a disc like the lawn tractors have. Your tractor was made by Gilson for Montgomery wards. Very good tractors. I have 4 of them. Gene

The transaxle is a Peerless 2300.  The right angle gear box is also a Peerless product.  The variable speed is a Gilson design and no parts are available without tons of searching.  I just eliminated it, one tractor is setup with a fast pulley and my other is setup with a slow pulley.

Thanks, I have a lot of green ones, 430, 420, 318, 110 square fender and 110 round fender, and plenty of attachments too, was gonna put the wards loader on a 110 but I finally found this 15 to mount it to79aa6d2db724627d376f095d0d0c7283.jpg
