I am looking to replace the belts on my 1050 and g12 (1255). I am wondering what belts you guys are running and opinions on their performance and live span. Also part numbers and sizing would be excellent.

You will need to run matched sets and get good kevlar belts. The 1050's PTO is also a special 42.5'' length

An auto store special will not last long at all especially on a single clutching drive like the G12

If you would like the belts send me a PM I have them all here instock and can probably give you a break on shipping if you buy both sets.

On my 1050's I run Gates # 6834 (4L340W) for the drive belts and have had good luck with them.  Gates used to offer the correct PTO belts but I believe they have discontinued supplying them -  I am still running the last Gates ones I got on the one tractor.  The PTO belt is a special 42 1/2" length belt - I have used Gates 6842 (4L420W) and 6843 (4L430W) on my other 1050 but the PTO may drag a bit with the shorter one or you may have to adjust the PTO to the bottom of the slots for the longer version to keep them from slipping.  Gates show 6832 for the starter generator and I have tried it but found it slipped a bit when starting - they do offer a cogged automotive belt about the same length that I found worked better (sorry I do not remember the part # that I used for it).  If you are replacing all of the belts I would suggest biting the bullet and getting them from someone like Bolens 1000 or Blackjackjakexix (Rick Show) - you may pay a little more but I believe they have the original or an equivalent belt that are the correct size.  You could also check with an MTD dealer as they may still be available from MTD Canada - just a thought.

For the Bolens 1255 Gates catalog a 6843 (4L430W) for the PTO on their website.  http://navigates.gates.com/

A while back i had bought "true-blue" Kevlar belts for my 1050. Not matched sets though but they seem to get the job done. PN are 248-034 and 248-042 respectively for drive and PTO. I have also used these true-blue belts on my other tubeframes.

Brian has the exact 42.5" belts and also gets matched set so that may be the way to go, although I have a feeling the belts eventually match themselves up after some usage.
